TITLE: CuteNews "archive" Parameter Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA12260 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/12260/ CRITICAL: Less critical IMPACT: Cross Site Scripting WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: CuteNews 0.x http://secunia.com/product/1148/ CuteNews 1.x http://secunia.com/product/1798/ DESCRIPTION: Debasis Mohanty has reported a vulnerability in CuteNews, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting attacks. Input passed to the "archive" parameter in "show_archives.php" is not sanitised properly before being returned to users. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected website by tricking the user into visiting a malicious website or follow a specially crafted link. Example: http://[host]/show_archives.php?archive=[code]&subaction=list-archive& The vulnerability has been confirmed in version 1.3.1. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised.
