TITLE: xine-lib Multiple Buffer Overflow Vulnerabilities SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA12602 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/12602/ CRITICAL: Highly critical IMPACT: System access WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: xine-lib 1.x http://secunia.com/product/3410/ xine-lib 0.x http://secunia.com/product/3409/ DESCRIPTION: Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in xine-lib, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system. 1) A boundary error within the VideoCD functionality when reading ISO disk labels can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow by passing an overly long disk label. 2) A boundary error within the handling of text subtitles can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow and may allow arbitrary code execution via a specially crafted file. 3) A boundary error within the DVD subpicture decoder can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow. This may allow execution of arbitrary code via e.g. a malicious MPEG file. SOLUTION: The vulnerabilities have been fixed in version 1-rc6a. http://xinehq.de/index.php/releases PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: Reported by vendor. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- About: This Advisory was delivered by Secunia as a free service to help everybody keeping their systems up to date against the latest vulnerabilities.
