TITLE: QNX RTOS FTP Client "QUOTE" Command Format String Vulnerability SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA12533 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/12533/ CRITICAL: Less critical IMPACT: Privilege escalation WHERE: Local system OPERATING SYSTEM: QNX RTOS 6.x http://secunia.com/product/708/ DESCRIPTION: Julio Cesar Fort has reported a vulnerability in QNX RTOS, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to gain escalated privileges. The vulnerability is caused due to a format string error in the FTP client utility (ftp) when handling "QUOTE" FTP commands. This can be exploited by passing a specially crafted string containing format string specifiers as argument to the affected command. Successful exploitation may reportedly allow execution of arbitrary code with group "bin" privileges. The vulnerability has been reported in version 6.1. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: The vendor was contacted but did not reply. Remove the setgid bit on the FTP client utility.
