The vulnerability is caused due to a lock file handling error in kcheckpass.c and may be exploited to gain root privileges. Successful exploitation requires that the directory "/var/lock" is writable by the user invoking kcheckpass. The affects KDE versions 3.2.0 through 3.4.2.
