TITLE: ProZilla "ftpsearch" Buffer Overflow Vulnerability SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA17021 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/17021/ CRITICAL: Moderately critical IMPACT: System access WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: ProZilla 1.x http://secunia.com/product/4312/ DESCRIPTION: Tavis Ormandy has reported a vulnerability in ProZilla, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system. The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the handling of ftp search results in the "get_string_ahref()" function of "ftpsearch.c". This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow and allows arbitrary code execution via a malicious server that returns a search result with a specially crafted string in the "HREF" attribute of the "" tag. Successful exploitation requires that ProZilla is used with the "-ftpsearch" option, and also requires that the attacker is able to poison the DNS cache. The vulnerability has been reported in version 1.3.7.4. Prior versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: The vulnerability has been fixed in the "libprozilla" CVS repository.
