TITLE: wget NTLM Username Handling Buffer Overflow Vulnerability SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA17192 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/17192/ CRITICAL: Moderately critical IMPACT: System access WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: GNU wget 1.x http://secunia.com/product/3416/ DESCRIPTION: A vulnerability has been reported in wget, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system. The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the "ntlm_output()" function when using "memcpy() to copy the supplied NTLM username to a stack buffer. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via a HTTP redirect request that contains an overly long username in the URL of the "Location" header. Success exploitation requires that NTLM support is enabled and that the user is e.g. tricked into using wget on a malicious website. The vulnerability has been reported in version 1.10. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Update to version 1.10.2. http://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/wget/ PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: Discovered by anonymous person and reported via iDEFENSE.
