TITLE: iTunes Shared Music Potential Denial of Service SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA17204 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/17204/ CRITICAL: Not critical IMPACT: DoS WHERE: >From local network SOFTWARE: iTunes 6.x http://secunia.com/product/5882/ DESCRIPTION: Seth Fogie has reported a security issue in iTunes, which potentially can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service). The security issue is caused due to iTunes failing to authenticate the source of shared music lists received via multicast. This can be exploited via a MDNS packet with spoofed source IP address to delete the list of music shared by other users from multiple users' iTunes and thereby potentially causing a DoS. It is also possible to modify the name of entries in the list via specially-crafted packets. The security issue has been reported in version 6.0. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Restrict use of the shared music feature to within trusted networks only.
