TITLE: BMV PS File Page Handling Integer Overflow Vulnerability SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA17266 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/17266/ CRITICAL: Moderately critical IMPACT: System access WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: BMV 1.x http://secunia.com/product/4500/ DESCRIPTION: felinemenace has reported a vulnerability in BMV, which potentially can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system. The vulnerability is caused due to an integer overflow error in the "openpsfile()" function when allocating memory to store the file offsets of each page in a PS file. This can be exploited to cause a heap corruption, which may allow arbitrary code execution via a specially crafted PS file. Successful exploitation requires that the user is e.g. tricked into opening a malicious PS file. The vulnerability has been reported in version 1.2. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Do not use BMV to open PS files from untrusted sources.
