The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the "_chm_decompress_block()" function when reading input into a buffer. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow and may allow arbitrary code execution via a specially crafted ".chm" file. The vulnerability has been reported in version 0.36 and prior. Note: The vulnerability potentially affects other applications that use the library. SOLUTION: Update to version 0.37. http://morte.jedrea.com/~jedwin/projects/chmlib/ PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: Sven Tantau ORIGINAL ADVISORY: http://www.sven-tantau.de/public_files/chmlib/chmlib_20051126.txt ---------------------------------------------------------------------- About: This Advisory was delivered by Secunia as a free service to help everybody keeping their systems up to date against the latest vulnerabilities.
