TITLE: GNUMP3d Cross-Site Scripting and Directory Traversal Vulnerabilities SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA17351 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/17351/ CRITICAL: Moderately critical IMPACT: Cross Site Scripting, Exposure of sensitive information WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: GNUMP3d 2.x http://secunia.com/product/6011/ DESCRIPTION: Steve Kemp has reported two vulnerabilities in GNUMP3d, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting and directory traversal attacks. 1) Input passed in the URL is not isn't properly sanitised before being returned to the user in the 404 error page. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site. 2) An input validation error in the user supplied URL makes it possible to escape the media file root directory and retrieve files from the system via directory traversal attacks using specially-crafted directory traversal character sequences. Example: http://[host]/.//../////././/../////./[file] The vulnerability has been reported in version 2.9.3. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Update to version 2.9.6. http://savannah.gnu.org/download/gnump3d/gnump3d-2.9.6.tar.gz PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: Steve Kemp ORIGINAL ADVISORY: Debian: http://www.debian.org/security/2005/dsa-877 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- About: This Advisory was delivered by Secunia as a free service to help everybody keeping their systems up to date against the latest vulnerabilities.
