TITLE: eFiction Multiple Vulnerabilities SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA17777 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/17777/ CRITICAL: Highly critical IMPACT: Security Bypass, Cross Site Scripting, Manipulation of data, Exposure of system information, System access WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: eFiction 1.x http://secunia.com/product/6233/ eFiction 2.x http://secunia.com/product/6234/ DESCRIPTION: rgod has reported some vulnerabilities in eFiction, which can be exploited by malicious people to disclose system information, conduct cross-site scripting and SQL injection attacks, and compromise a vulnerable system. 1) Input passed to the "let" parameter in "titles.php" isn't properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site. 2) Some input isn't properly sanitised before being used in a SQL query. This can be exploited to manipulate SQL queries by injecting arbitrary SQL code. Successful exploitation requires that "magic_quotes_gpc" is disabled. 3) An input validation error in the "Manage Images" functionality can be exploited to upload valid images with an arbitrary file extension inside the web root (e.g. an image with the ".php" file extension containing embedded PHP code). Successful exploitation requires that users are allowed to upload images. 4) The problem is that it is possible to disclose certain system information by accessing "phpinfo.php". It is also possible to disclose the full path to "storyblock.php" by accessing it directly. The vulnerabilities have been reported in versions 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised and verified, restrict access to the "phpinfo.php" script, and do not allow users to upload images (this may however affect functionality).
