TITLE: RCBlog File Upload and Disclosure of Sensitive Information SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA18547 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/18547/ CRITICAL: Moderately critical IMPACT: Exposure of sensitive information, System access WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: RCBlog 1.x http://secunia.com/product/6891/ DESCRIPTION: Aliaksandr Hartsuyeu has reported two vulnerabilities and a security issue in RCBlog, which can be exploited by malicious users to potentially compromise a vulnerable system and by malicious people to disclose sensitive information. 1) The problem is that user information is stored in text files in the "data" and "config" directories inside the web root. This can be exploited to disclose usernames and encrypted passwords, and other user information. 2) Input passed to the "post" parameter in "index.php" isn't properly verified, before being used to view files. This can be exploited to view arbitrary files with the ".txt" file extension via directory traversal attacks. 3) The problem is that administrators can upload arbitrary files to a location inside the web root. This can e.g. be exploited to upload and execute an arbitrary PHP script. The vulnerabilities and the security issue have been reported in version 1.0.3. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly verified, add only trusted users as administrators, and restrict web access to the "data" and "config" directories (e.g. with a .htaccess file). Use another product.
