TITLE: Sami FTP Server USER Command Buffer Overflow SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA18574 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/18574/ CRITICAL: Highly critical IMPACT: System access WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: Sami FTP Server 2.x http://secunia.com/product/6956/ DESCRIPTION: Critical Security has discovered a vulnerability in Sami FTP Server, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system. The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the handling of the USER command. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow and allows arbitrary code execution via an overly long username. Successful exploitation requires that the user clicks on the "Log" tab to view the on-screen server log. However, this is not necessary if the application is already running with the on-screen server log displayed. The vulnerability has been confirmed in version 2.0.1. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Filter malicious requests in a proxy or firewall with FTP filtering capabilities.
