TITLE: Mailback Mail Header Injection Vulnerability SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA18748 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/18748/ CRITICAL: Moderately critical IMPACT: Security Bypass WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: Mailback 1.x http://secunia.com/product/7712/ DESCRIPTION: coderpunk has discovered a vulnerability in Mailback, which can be exploited by malicious people to bypass certain security restrictions. Input passed to the "subject" parameter isn't properly sanitised before being used to construct an email message. This can be exploited to inject arbitrary email headers by inserting newline characters in the parameter. Successful exploitation allows the injecting of "Cc" or "Bcc" headers, which may allow the sending of spam messages from the server. The vulnerability has been confirmed in mailback.pl revision 1.3. Prior versions may also be affected SOLUTION: The vulnerability has been fixed in revision 1.4. http://vc.thauvin.net/cvs/cgi/mailback/mailback.pl?view=markup&rev=1.4 PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: coderpunk ---------------------------------------------------------------------- About: This Advisory was delivered by Secunia as a free service to help everybody keeping their systems up to date against the latest vulnerabilities.
