TITLE: CrossFire "SetUp()" Buffer Overflow Vulnerability SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA19237 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/19237/ CRITICAL: Highly critical IMPACT: DoS, System access WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: CrossFire 1.x http://secunia.com/product/8396/ DESCRIPTION: landser has discovered a vulnerability in CrossFire, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) and potentially to compromise a vulnerable system. The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error within the "SetUp()" function in "request.c" when handling the "setup" command. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow and may allow arbitrary code execution via a specially-crafted "setup" command sent to the server. The vulnerability has been confirmed in version 1.9.0. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Host network games only when connected to trusted networks.
