TITLE: cURL/libcURL TFTP Protocol URL Parsing Buffer Overflow SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA19271 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/19271/ CRITICAL: Moderately critical IMPACT: System access WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: cURL 7.x http://secunia.com/product/4691/ DESCRIPTION: Ulf Harnhammar has reported a vulnerability in cURL/libcURL, which potentially can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system. The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error within the parsing of a URL that contains the TFTP protocol prefix "tftp://". This can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow via a specially-crafted URL that consist of a valid hostname and a path that is longer than 512 bytes. Successful exploitation requires that the user is e.g. tricked into using cURL with a specially-crafted URL or to use cURL with a HTTP server that redirects to a malicious tftp URL. The vulnerability has been reported in versions 7.15.0 through 7.15.2. SOLUTION: Update to version 7.15.3. http://curl.haxx.se/download.html PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: Ulf Harnhammar ORIGINAL ADVISORY: http://curl.haxx.se/docs/adv_20060320.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- About: This Advisory was delivered by Secunia as a free service to help everybody keeping their systems up to date against the latest vulnerabilities.
