TITLE: Beagle "beagle-status" Command Execution Vulnerability SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA19278 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/19278/ CRITICAL: Less critical IMPACT: Privilege escalation WHERE: Local system SOFTWARE: Beagle 0.x http://secunia.com/product/8771/ DESCRIPTION: James McCaw has discovered a vulnerability in Beagle, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to perform certain actions on a vulnerable system with escalated privileges. The vulnerability is caused due to the "beagle-status" script running the "beagle-info" script insecurely by giving preference to the copy that is located within the user's current working directory. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary commands by tricking the user to run "beagle-status" from a directory that contains a malicious copy of "beagle-info". The vulnerability has been confirmed in version 0.2.2.1. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Do not run "beagle-status" from within non-trusted directories.
