TITLE: iOpus Secure Email Attachments Password Usage Security Issue SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA19771 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/19771/ CRITICAL: Less critical IMPACT: Security Bypass WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: iOpus Secure Email Attachments 1.x http://secunia.com/product/9548/ DESCRIPTION: NtWaK0 and NoPh0BiA have reported a security issue in iOpus Secure Email Attachments, which potentially can be exploited by malicious people to bypass certain security restrictions. The security issue is caused due to a design error in the way user-supplied password is used for file encryption. If a long password that contains a recurring sequence is used to encrypt a file e.g. ABCDABCD, then only the first part of the sequence is required for decryption i.e. ABCD. The security issue has been confirmed in version 1.0. Other versions may also be affected SOLUTION: Do not use passwords with recurring sequences.
