TITLE: abcmidi ABC Music File Handling Buffer Overflow Vulnerabilities SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA19826 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/19826/ CRITICAL: Moderately critical IMPACT: System access WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: abcMIDI http://secunia.com/product/4395/ DESCRIPTION: Erik Sjölund has reported some vulnerabilities in abc2midi, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system. The vulnerabilities are caused due to various boundary errors in "drawtune.c" and "yapstree.c" when processing ABC music files. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via a specially crafted ABC music file. The vulnerabilities affect version 2006-04-22. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Do not process ABC music files originating from untrusted sources.
