TITLE: Resource Manager resmgrd USB Device Granting Security Issue SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA19887 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/19887/ CRITICAL: Less critical IMPACT: Security Bypass WHERE: Local system SOFTWARE: Resource Manager 1.x http://secunia.com/product/9632/ DESCRIPTION: A security issue has been reported in Resource Manager, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to bypass certain security restrictions. The security issue is caused due to an error in "resmgrd" when granting access to USB devices. This causes "resmgrd" to grant access to all USB devices if access to one USB device was granted via the "usb:," notation. Successful exploitation may allow processes to access devices that they should not have access to. The security issue has been reported in version 1.0. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Restrict access to affected systems. Some Linux vendors have issued updated packages. PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: Reported in a Debian advisory.
