TITLE: phpBB "Upload Avatar from a URL" Remote HTTP Request Weakness SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA20093 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/20093/ CRITICAL: Not critical IMPACT: Security Bypass WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: phpBB 2.x http://secunia.com/product/463/ DESCRIPTION: rgod has discovered a weakness in phpBB, which can be exploited by malicious people to use it for making HTTP requests to other sites. The weakness is caused due to a design error in the "Upload Avatar from a URL" functionality. This can be exploited to cause the server to make HTTP GET requests to arbitrary remote sites. Successful exploitation requires that the "Enable avatar uploading" setting is enabled (disabled by default). The weakness has been confirmed in version 2.0.20. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Disable "Enable avatar uploading" if enabled.
