TITLE: libextractor asfextractor/qtextractor Buffer Overflow Vulnerabilities SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA20150 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/20150/ CRITICAL: Moderately critical IMPACT: System access WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: libextractor 0.x http://secunia.com/product/5230/ DESCRIPTION: Luigi Auriemma has reported two vulnerabilities in libextractor, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) and potentially compromise an application that uses the library. 1) A boundary error exists in the "asf_read_header()" function within the asfextractor plugin when reading input from an ASF file. This can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow via a specially crafted ASF file with an overly large "total_size" value. 2) A boundary error exists in the "parse_trak_atom()" function within the qtextractor plugin when reading input from a QT/MOV file. This can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow via a specially crafted QT/MOV file. The vulnerabilities have been reported in version 0.5.13. Prior versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Update to version 0.5.14. http://gnunet.org/libextractor/download.php3?xlang=English PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: Luigi Auriemma ORIGINAL ADVISORY: http://aluigi.altervista.org/adv/libextho-adv.txt ---------------------------------------------------------------------- About: This Advisory was delivered by Secunia as a free service to help everybody keeping their systems up to date against the latest vulnerabilities.
