TITLE: NewsCMSLite Admin Logon Bypass Vulnerability SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA20294 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/20294/ CRITICAL: Moderately critical IMPACT: Security Bypass WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: NewsCMSLite http://secunia.com/product/10168/ DESCRIPTION: FarhadKey has discovered a vulnerability in NewsCMSLite, which can be exploited by malicious people to bypass certain security restrictions. The vulnerability is caused due to weak authentication mechanisms being implemented in newsadmin.asp to restrict access to the admin page. This can be exploited to bypass authentication checks by setting the "loggedIn" cookie parameter to a known default value when accessing the page. Successful exploitations allows access to administrative functions without requiring knowledge of the password, but requires that the user has not modified the source code to change the cookie value. The vulnerability has been confirmed in the latest version. SOLUTION: Edit the source code to modify the "loggedIn" cookie value to a difficult to guess value.
