The vulnerability is caused due to an error in the processing of DHCPOFFER packets in the "supersede_lease()" function in memory.c. This can be exploited to crash a vulnerable service by sending a packet with a 32 byte client-identifier option. The vulnerability has been reported in version 2.0pl5.
