The vulnerability is caused due to an integer overflow within the "systrace_preprepl()" function. By sending large integer values to the ioctl() syscall, this can be exploited to read kernel memory, cause a DoS or gain escalated privileges. Note: This issue was also reported in NetBSD 3. SOLUTION: Apply patches. OpenBSD 3.8: ftp://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/patches/3.8/common/019_systrace.patch OpenBSD 3.9: ftp://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/patches/3.9/common/014_systrace.patch PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: Chris Evans ORIGINAL ADVISORY: http://openbsd.org/errata.html#systrace http://scary.beasts.org/security/CESA-2006-003.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- About: This Advisory was delivered by Secunia as a free service to help everybody keeping their systems up to date against the latest vulnerabilities.
