The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error within the "main_skin_check_ini_value()" function in skin.c. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow by specifying an overly long string (more than 1024 bytes) as a key in the INI file of the skin. Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code. Buffer overflows are also reported to occur within "CPL_AddPrefixedFile()" function in CPI_Playlist.c and "main_skin_open()" function in skin.c. The vulnerability is confirmed in version 2.16. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Do not load untrusted skins.
