The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error within the WinDVDX ActiveX control when handling the "GetDiscType()" method. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow by passing an overly long string (greater than 260 bytes) as argument to the affected method. Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code. The vulnerability is reported in version 2.1.13.0 and confirmed in version 2.5.13.58 incorporating WinDVDX.ocx version 1.0.0.1. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Set the kill-bit on the affected ActiveX control.
