The vulnerability is caused due to an error in the handling of video conversations and can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow via specially crafted data sent to a user. Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code, but requires that the victim accepts the incoming Web Cam invitation. The vulnerability is reported in version 7.x. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: No fix is available for 7.x versions and prior. Users are encouraged to upgrade to Windows Live Messenger 8.1 or later, which is not affected by the vulnerability. Do not accept untrusted Web Cam sessions.
