The vulnerability is caused due to an error when checking the open flags and access modes when opening a directory. This can be exploited to truncate directories by calling the "open()" system call with certain flags. Successful exploitation requires write privileges for the directory to be truncated. The vulnerability is reported in version 2.6.15 up to versions prior to 2.6.22.16 or 2.6.23.14. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Update to version 2.6.22.16 or 2.6.23.14.
