The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error within the "command_Expand_Interpret()" function in command.c. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via a string containing special characters (.e.g '~'). Successful exploitation requires that the attacker has "network" group privileges. The vulnerability is reported in the user-ppp included in FreeBSD 6.3. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Restrict local access to trusted users only.
