The vulnerability is caused due to an unspecified error within the CUPS CGI backend. This can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow via a specially crafted IPP request. Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code, but requires that the vulnerable system is sharing printers on the network. NOTE: If printer sharing is disabled, the vulnerability can only be exploited by malicious, local users. The vulnerability is reported in version 1.3.5. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Restrict access to trusted users only. Disable printer sharing. PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: regenrecht, reported via iDefense.
