---------------------------------------------------------------------- Secunia Network Software Inspector 2.0 (NSI) - Public Beta The Public Beta has ended. Thanks to all that participated. Learn more: http://secunia.com/network_software_inspector_2/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TITLE: Red Hat update for setroubleshoot SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA30339 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/30339/ CRITICAL: Less critical IMPACT: Cross Site Scripting, Privilege escalation WHERE: Local system OPERATING SYSTEM: Red Hat Enterprise Linux (v. 5 server) http://secunia.com/product/13652/ Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop (v. 5 client) http://secunia.com/product/13653/ DESCRIPTION: Red Hat has issued an update for setroubleshoot. This fixes two security issues, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to conduct script insertion attacks and to perform certain actions with escalated privileges. 1) The problem is that the "sealert" script uses temporary files in an insecure manner. This can be exploited via symlink attacks to overwrite arbitrary files with the privileges of the user running "sealert". 2) Input passed via process and file names is not properly sanitised before being saved when an AVC denial event takes place. This can be exploited to insert arbitrary HTML and script code, which is executed in a user's browser session in context of an affected site when the malicious logs are viewed. SOLUTION: Updated packages are available via Red Hat Network. http://rhn.redhat.com/ ORIGINAL ADVISORY: https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2008-0061.html https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=288221 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=288271 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- About: This Advisory was delivered by Secunia as a free service to help everybody keeping their systems up to date against the latest vulnerabilities.
