The vulnerability is caused due to the DRM_I915_HWS_ADDR IOCTL being available to non-root users, which can be exploited to e.g. zero and remap memory locations by sending a specially crafted IOCTL to the driver. Successful exploitation may allow to execute arbitrary code with escalated privileges, but requires an Intel G33 series or newer chipset. SOLUTION: Fixed in version 2.6.27-git8. http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=4b40893918203ee1a1f6a114316c2a19c072e9bd PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: Olaf Kirch ORIGINAL ADVISORY: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=4b40893918203ee1a1f6a114316c2a19c072e9bd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- About: This Advisory was delivered by Secunia as a free service to help everybody keeping their systems up to date against the latest vulnerabilities.
