The vulnerability is caused due to certain ISC BIND functions not correctly verifying the return value of the OpenSSL "EVP_VerifyFinal()" and "DSA_do_verify()" functions when validating the signature of DSA and NSEC3DSA keys. This may be exploited to e.g. send spoofed responses from zones using DSA or NSEC3DSA keys. Successful exploitation requires that the zone uses the DSA or NSEC3DSA algorithms. The vulnerability is reported in the following versions: * BIND 9.0 (all versions) * BIND 9.1 (all versions) * BIND 9.2 (all versions) * BIND 9.3.0, 9.3.1, 9.3.2, 9.3.3, 9.3.4, 9.3.5, 9.3.6 * BIND 9.4.0, 9.4.1, 9.4.2, 9.4.3 * BIND 9.5.0, 9.5.1 * BIND 9.6.0 This is related to: SA33338 SOLUTION: Update to version 9.3.6-P1, 9.4.3-P1, 9.5.1-P1, or 9.6.0-P1. As a workaround, the vendor recommends to disable the DSA and NSEC3DSA algorithms. See vendor's advisory for additional information.
