The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the "/usr/sbin/muxatmd" command, which is setuid root. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via a program that calls "muxatmd" with a specially crafted parameter. Successful exploitation allows executing arbitrary code with root privileges. The vulnerability is reported in AIX 5.2, 5.3, and 6.1.
