The vulnerability is caused due to an error in the handling of the "_LIB_INIT_DBG" and "_LIB_INIT_DBG_FILE" environment variables in a debugging component of the XL C++ runtime library. This can be exploited to create arbitrary writable files owned by root via a setuid root program linked with the XL C++ runtime library. Successful exploitation allows to execute arbitrary code with root privileges.
