The vulnerability is caused due to an integer overflow error in the Keyview XLS viewer (xlssr.dll) when processing Shared String Table (SST) records. This can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow when a specially crafted XLS file is processed. Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code. The vulnerability is reported in xlssr.dll versions 8.0.0.7214, 8.5.0.8339, and 10.5.0.0. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Do not process untrusted XLS files. Delete the xlssr.dll library. PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: Joshua J.
