The vulnerability is caused due to an array indexing error in the srv2.sys kernel driver. This can be exploited to dereference out-of-bounds memory via a specially crafted SMB packet. Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code. The vulnerability is confirmed in a fully patched Windows Vista Enterprise SP2. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Restrict access to TCP ports 139 and 445.
