Merkaartor Insecure Log File Creation Security Issue

DESCRIPTION:
A security issue has been discovered in Merkaartor, which can be
exploited by malicious, local users to perform certain actions with
escalated privileges.

The security issue is caused due to the application creating the log
file in an insecure manner. This can be exploited to e.g. overwrite
files via symlink attacks.

Note: This does not affect Windows systems.

The security issue is confirmed in version 0.14. Other versions may
also be affected.

SOLUTION:
Restrict access to trusted users only. Specify a secure path for the
log file via the "-l" parameter.
