The vulnerability is caused due to an error in the processing of IPv6 packets and can be exploited to crash Snort when a specially crafted packet is received. Successful exploitation requires that Snort is compiled using the "--enable-ipv6" option and started with the "-v" command-line switch. The vulnerability is reported in version 2.8.5.
