---------------------------------------------------------------------- Secunia integrated with Microsoft WSUS http://secunia.com/blog/71/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TITLE: maildrop Privilege Escalation Security Issue SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA38367 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/38367/ DESCRIPTION: A security issue has been reported in maildrop, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to perform certain actions with escalated privileges. The security issue is caused due to maildrop not properly setting up supplementary groups, which can be exploited to perform certain actions with e.g. "root" group privileges. Successful exploitation requires that maildrop is compiled without "RESET_GID" being set (e.g. if the mail directory does not use the sticky bit). SOLUTION: Fixed in the CVS repository. http://courier.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/courier/courier/maildrop/maildrop/main.C?r1=1.58&r2=1.59 PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: Christoph Anton Mitterer ORIGINAL ADVISORY: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=564601 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- About: This Advisory was delivered by Secunia as a free service to help private users keeping their systems up to date against the latest vulnerabilities.
