The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error within the "sdump()" function in sdump.c when printing issuer and subject information of X.509 certificates, which can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow. Successful exploitation may allow the execution of arbitrary code but requires that fetchmail is run in verbose mode on a system where the "char" type is signed and the user is tricked into connecting to a malicious server. The vulnerability is reported in versions 6.3.11, 6.3.12, and 6.3.13. SOLUTION: Apply patch (see vendor's advisory) or update to version 6.3.14 as soon as it becomes available. Also fixed in the SVN repository. http://developer.berlios.de/project/showfiles.php?group_id=1824 PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: Reported by the vendor.
