---------------------------------------------------------------------- Secunia CSI + Microsoft SCCM ----------------------- = Extensive Patch Management http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/corporate/wsus_sccm_3rd_third_party_patching/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TITLE: Miranda TLS "STARTTLS" Security Bypass Security Issue SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA39346 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/39346/ DESCRIPTION: Jan Schejbal has discovered a security issue in Miranda, which can be exploited by malicious people to bypass certain security restrictions. The security issue is caused due to Miranda falling back to unencrypted connections if the server does not offer TLS encryption via the "STARTTLS" command, which can be exploited to conduct Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) attacks, although the "Use TLS" setting is enabled. The security issue is confirmed in version 0.8.19. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Do not rely on TLS encryption. If available, use SSL as a workaround.
