---------------------------------------------------------------------- Secunia CSI + Microsoft SCCM ----------------------- = Extensive Patch Management http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/corporate/wsus_sccm_3rd_third_party_patching/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TITLE: Microsoft Windows "SfnLOGONNOTIFY()" and "SfnINSTRING()" Denial of Service SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA39456 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/39456/ DESCRIPTION: Two vulnerabilities have been discovered in Microsoft Windows, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to cause a DoS (Denial of Service). 1) An error exists within the "SfnLOGONNOTIFY()" function in win32k.sys when handling window messages. This can be exploited to cause a kernel crash by sending a specially crafted 4Ch message to the "DDEMLEvent" window. 2) An error exists within the "SfnINSTRING()" function in win32k.sys when handling window messages. This can be exploited to cause a kernel crash by sending a specially crafted 18Dh message to the "DDEMLEvent" window. The vulnerabilities are confirmed on a fully patched Windows XP SP3. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Restrict local access to trusted users only.
