The weakness is caused due to an error when updating the address bar field of a pop-up window. This can be exploited to load a malicious web page and cause the address bar to display only a certain part of the address in a manner that may trick users into believing that the web page is served by a trusted site. The weakness is confirmed in Internet Explorer 7 and 8 on a fully patched Windows XP SP3. SOLUTION: Do not browse untrusted websites.
