Successful exploitation of this vulnerability requires an application using the "attr_protected" method. This vulnerability is reported in versions prior to 3.2.12, 3.1.11, and 2.3.17. 2) An input validation error within the "+serialize+" helper in ActiveRecord when parsing serialized fields can be exploited to deserialize arbitrary YAML input. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow execution of arbitrary code but requires an application to allow input to be assigned to the serialized fields. This vulnerability is reported in versions 2.3.x and prior and 3.0.x and prior. SOLUTION: Update to versions 3.2.12, 3.1.11, or 2.3.17.
