PSS File Submission FAQ

Note: If you already have several programs or files published on this site,
then you probably already know the rules and do not need to review this FAQ,
but you might want to read through it anyway for the sake of humor.

• Submissions can be made by email - either as files attached to the email or as enclosed URLs to HTTP, FTP, or Gopher sources for the programs/files. We do NOT offer any anonymous or guest FTP access to this server, for security reasons (no exceptions).

• If possible, send source code with any binary (executable) files so we can review your submission(s) without having to run the program(s) through the full gauntlet of virus and trojan scanners, and hexeditors. This is not necessary, but it makes our job easier and greatly increases the chance that your program(s) will be posted. We will keep all source code private and confidential unless you of course submit only source code, state specifically that you want the source code published, or have included the source in a compressed/archived "Ready for Primetime" package with the binary file(s).

• If you submit a program/file/white paper that you did not create yourself, or if it contains code "borrowed" from someone else, then make sure to give credit where credit is due. If you find anything on this site that should be credited to you but is not, or contains any copyright violations, then please contact us and we will cooperate fully with you to rectify any problems and to track down the bastard who ripped your work.

• If you "reinvent the wheel" [read: create a program/file that is not new or different] then make sure that you at least make it better and/or faster than previous versions/variations that have already been published on the Internet.

• If you have submitted your program once or twice already, then there is no need to submit it 47 more times; the easy way to ensure that we do NOT include your program on our site is to submit it repeatedly. Two submissions is plenty, and one will usually suffice. We process submissions every week day.

• Do NOT bother trying to submit programs "secretly" infected with viruses or trojans. When we catch you trying to do this, attempting to compromise our security and privacy and that of our visitors, we will report your actions to your Internet Service Provider(s) and law enforcement agencies, and publish our findings in the appropriate public forums if we deem such actions to be warranted. Of course, if you are openly submitting a trojan or virus, then please disregard the previous comment - just make sure that you clearly state in your submission and preferably in any included "readme" file that your program "is a virus or trojan".

• We don't post "news" about "hacked web sites" because such malicious activities are generally without merit, and have no redeeming value for the Information Security professionals and amateurs who comprise our target audience. If you have found a serious security hole in a machine, then do the right thing and email the system administrator and inform him/her of the problem.

• Are you unsure about whether or not your program or file is "worthy" of being published in The Public Domain? The best way to find out is to send it to us - the worst thing that can happen is that we reply with a polite "thanks, but no thanks" email, or simply ignore you if the program is *really* bad. On the other hand, if it is bad _enough_ AND has some other inherently humorous qualities, then we might just publish it anyway. Give it a shot!
