4 october 1996 SEDERS NEWSLETTER #10 al aab
===========================================================================

Never before has the seders moderator included an application of a new
seder in a seders newsletter. Hope Mr David Briars does not object.
Especially the seders newsletters will be archived @the seders Web site.
If he does object, we will oblige him (remove his application from the
seders Web site).

One reason for said exception is that, though seders had the privilige &
honor of including a dentist, several system administrators, gee-wiz sed
hackers, and a software consultant who has governments among his clientèle,
seders never had a legal practioner before.

The second reason is that Mr David Briars has submitted one of the longest
self-intros.

Thirdly, Mr David Briars has arisen some important, intelligent issues
& questions :-

SED INTERFACE - VISUALIZATION

Such a visual interface of the highly unfriendly sed (& other regular-
expression software) would be someting to behold - not to mention
friendly. Let sed et al sit under a GUi hood, hiding their frowning faces.
interesting idea that befits the latter years of the twentieth century.

The third reason, rather personal to the seders moderator, is:
@last, the moderator has found a kindred spirit, a user of a version of sed
of sed that is friendlier & extended - compared to standard UNIX sed.
the SED15 for DOS.

The seders web will include a link to SED15 and to another DOS sed, punningly
called U-SEDIT, as well as a hacked version of SED15, which gives sed a modicum
of tracing. The only sed debugger the seders moderator ever heard of was
mentioned by an ex-seder, Mr Brian Hiles.

Even if a seder does not care for dos, the moderator hails the readable docs
that come with SED15, & especially with U-SEDIT.

For now, here are the URL's for SED15 & U-SEDIT zipped files. Thrown in is the
URL of UI ARCHIVE search engine for MS shareware.
